This work is a hack of the game Quake II by Id Software >>. The setup is similar to a previous work of mine, Children of the Bureaucrats of the Revolution >>: two computers are joined together in a local game network, and two video monitors display the separate viewpoints of two performers. In contrast to the previous work, the performers in this one are the monsters of the game.
Tank | Mutant |
Berserk | Supertank |
Any two of the above may be selected to perform, for example,
Tank with Mutant, or
Supertank with Berserk, or
even Tank with Tank.
The two monsters perform without a predetermined choreography; their moves are improvised and guided by a custom AI tuned for entertainment. Each type of monster has its own characteristic moves.
The following excerpt shows sample playback of the hacked engine. (Actual playback runs indefinitely.)

It's great for a change to see things from the point of view of the monsters. They're not in it for sport.
